Five Things to Know Today in Hamilton and Wenham: Aug. 15

An essential get-me-going daily morning column from Hamilton-Wenham Patch.

Today is Wednesday, Aug. 15. Here are five things you need to know: 1. Ice Cream: One of the most anticipated events of the summer at Hamilton-Wenham Library is the Super Summer Ice Cream Party – which is Wednesday night at 6 p.m. The event, which features Cherry Farm Creamery ice cream – actually requires advance registration and children need to bring their summer reading log, which serves as the entry ticket. 2. Fresh Air: We had several visitors to the two towns earlier this summer as part of the Fresh Air fund, when seven kids from “disadvantaged communities” in New York City came here as part of the program, which arranges visits for those children to suburban and rural communities in 13 Northeastern states. On Wednesday, another …

Kid-Friendly Fun: Wading Pool and Pingree Park

Take advantage of time with your kids and get out and enjoy these hot spots. Your Patch Passport gives you options for great local spots for kid-friendly fun.

Pingree Park: Tucked in the shade off Route 1A, Wenham's Pingree Park has arguably the best play structure in the two towns. While often lost to the specter of Patton Park and its tank, Pingree Park has just as much to offer. The main play structure seems newer and in better shape. And kids may tell you it is more fun. The best part is that there's always plenty of room to park  and it's free. In addition, there's the fields to toss around a ball or kick a soccer ball. Wading Pool at Bradley Palmer State Park There's no better quick, inexpensive way to stay cool with the kids than Bradley Palmer State Park's wading pool. It's just $5 a car to park. Once inside there's the pool and playground and plenty of shady areas to relax. There's a …

Just a note on Bradley Palmer pool hours. Although they say they close at 6. The pool closes at 5:30 sharp. They give you until 6pm to clear out of the facility. I've seen too many people show up disappointed thinking they can get a few minutes of play in the pool at 5:30, only to be shown the door.   more ›

Chemical Imbalance Closes Wading Pool, Will Reopen Wednesday

The wading pool at Bradley Palmer State Park was closed down Tuesday morning after an incorrect amount of chlorine was found in the pool. It is expected to reopen on Wednesday.

The wading pool at Bradley Palmer State Park is scheduled to reopen on Wednesday after it was shut down on Tuesday because of chemical imbalances in the water. The pool, which is on the Hamilton side of the 721-acre park that also sits partly in Topsfield, was closed on Tuesday morning after tests showed an improper level of chemicals in the pool, according to S.J. Port, a state Department of Conservation and Recreation spokeswoman. “In this case, the chlorine was off,” she said, noting she did not know if the levels were too high or too low. The DCR owns and operates the park and the pool. If chlorine levels are too high swimmers can risk getting burns and if it is too low it would does fight the spread of germs in the water. It was not …
