Blood Drive: There will be a blood drive on Friday at Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School that will benefit Children’s Hospital of Boston. It runs 7:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The drive has been happening at the school for the past few years, organized by a local family that wants to give back to a hospital that helped them. 3. Red Cross Issues Emergency Call for Blood Donations

Fewer than anticipated donors in June means a shortage in available blood stores.

Are you at least 17 years old? Do you weigh 110 pounds or more? Healthy? The American Red Cross needs your help. The Red Cross has issued an emergency request for blood donations, stating in a press release that its "blood supply has reached emergency levels with 50,000 fewer donations than expected in June." The blood bank is stocked with about half the available blood it held this time last year. Red Cross officials speculate that an earlier-than-normal spring season could have led to fewer than typical blood donations as regular donors transitioned into summer activities early and failed to schedule their blood and platelet donations. Tornado Relief: MBTA commuter rail riders have a chance between now and July 20 to help victims of last month’s tornadoes in western Massachusetts. The operator of commuter rail - Massachusetts Bay Commuter Railroad – plus the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army began a Tornado Relief Drive on July 6. Train riders from Hamilton-Wenham station can make donations at the North Station information counter.
