Five Things to Know on Feb. 6: Midwinter Night’s Choral Jubilee at First Church

An essential get-me-going daily morning column from Hamilton-Wenham Patch.

Today is Wednesday, Feb. 6. Here are five things you need to know in Hamilton and Wenham: 1. Clouds: The clouds that start the day on Wednesday will gradually clear and temperatures will get into the mid-30s. A west wind could also gust up to 20 miles per hour. 2. Midwinter Jubilee: Young performers will take the stage at First Church in Wenham on Wednesday at 7 p.m. for the 22nd annual Midwinter Night's Choral Jubilee. The program typically includes Miles River Middle School Chorus, Delle Belles and Solstice Singers performing. The event is sponsored by People’s United Bank and there will be a collection to benefit Acord Food pantry. 3. Thirty-five years ago we had 27 inches of snow. Today, the forecast for Hamilton and Wenham is for a slight chance of snow this afternoon with a high temperature of 26 degrees. It’s hard to believe it’s been 35 years since we were hit with the Blizzard of '78, but the stories will withstand the test of time. On Feb. 6, 1978, the area was blanketed with more than two feet of snow - a record - with the added bonus of hurricane force winds. The storm began the morning of Feb. 6 and lasted through the following evening. It was a storm that was never really predicted to be this large, and yet from it one good thing came – we learned about emergency preparedness.
