Hamilton and Wenham Storm Center: Small Number Without Power, Travel Ban to be Lifted at 4 p.m.

Saturday, 12:55 p.m.: Gov. Deval Patrick is about to announce that the driving ban for Hamilton and Wenham will be lifted at 4 p.m. Saturday, 12:30 p.m.: National Grid says that the 41 homes without power on Chebacco Road will get power restored by 1 p.m. Saturday, 8:46 a.m.: Wenham Museum announces that it will be closed on Saturday. Saturday, 8:45 a.m. National Grid crews have begun work on the power outage along Chebacco Road. Power is expected to be restored by 11 a.m. A low-hanging wire is blocking the road for larger vehicles. Saturday, 8:01 a.m.: The driving ban remains in place under an executive order of Gov. Deval Patrick. Saturday, 7:40 a.m.: The MBTA announces it will not likely resume service on Saturday for any services, …

Last Train Home Friday Leaves Boston at 3:20 p.m.
The last MBTA commuter train will leave Boston much earlier than usual on Friday because of the approaching blizzard.
The MBTA plans to completely halt service on Friday afternoon as the incoming blizzard is expected to really be firing up. In general, the T said service will end at about 3:30 p.m. on all subways, commuter rail trains and buses. The final train to Hamilton-Wenham station will leave North Station in Boston at 3:20 p.m. It is train No. 175 and is scheduled to arrive at Hamilton-Wenham at 4:04 p.m. The final inbound service to Boston will end across the commuter rail network at 3:30 p.m. The T has not announced when service will resume.

Hamilton Parking Ban to Begin at Noon
Hamilton has enacted a parking ban starting midday on Friday.
Hamilton has enacted a parking ban that will go into place at noon on Friday. It was announced on Thursday evening at about 7:15 p.m. via a Connect-CTY phone and e-mail message. It is the first time that a townwide parking ban has been enacted since Town Meeting voters approved changing the winter parking rules in October 2011 to a bylaw that bans on-street parking in the winter only when a parking ban is announced based on a forecast for 4 inches or more of snow. The parking ban will remain "until the weather emergency has been lifted," the announcement said. The ban means that on-street parking is banned all over town, except by Fire Department, Police Department, Department of Public Works and "other public safety and public utility …

Blizzard Warning Issued, White Out Expected
White out conditions are expected as the storm intensifies through Friday and into Saturday.
What began as a blizzard watch for Hamilton and Wenham on Wednesday has now been upped to a blizzard warning on Thursday afternoon. The National Weather Service issued the warning for the majority of eastern Massachusetts on Thursday afternoon, as it anticipates about 2 feet of snow to descend upon the area Friday into Saturday. "White out conditions are anticipated as roads become snow-covered by the Friday evening commute," the warning states. "Strong north-northeast winds are anticipated with gusts up to around 60 miles per hour, resulting in blowing and drifting of snow. A storm moving into the Hamilton and Wenham area first thing on Friday maybe more than just a snowstorm, forecasters now say it has the potential to be a blizzard that combines heavy snow and strong winds.
Friday’s storm is shaping up to be on par with some of the most legendary winter storms in New England history, according to meteorologists. Wednesday afternoon forecasters, including the National Weather Service, said the storm would deliver more than just a lot of snow - it has the potential to be a blizzard. That had caused the weather service to issue a blizzard watch for Hamilton and Wenham as well as much of eastern Massachusetts. The watch means that “there is a potential for considerable falling and/or blowing snow with sustained winds or frequent gusts over 35 miles per hour and visibilities below a quarter mile for at least 3 hours.” The watch is in effect from Friday morning through Saturday afternoon. Well, the storm has come & gone and we all survived! I want to commend the people who did the plowing, they did a great job up my way (Baker & Gifford). The only problem is the end of the street, we have to pull way out onto Asbury St in order to see if anyone is coming! I'm sure that'll be taken care of in short order. more ›
