Five Things to Know on Nov. 23: Meals on Wheels Needs Volunteer Drivers

Today is Friday, Nov. 23. Here are five things you need to know in Hamilton and Wenham: 1. Mild: A cloudy start on Friday is forecasted to make way for sun with temperatures getting up into the 50s for another mild day. 2. School: Friday marks day No. 2 of a four day long weekend for students. They will all return to school on Monday. 3. Christmas Trees: As soon as the final piece of apple pie is eaten, some families start the search for their Christmas tree. Black Friday Shoppers Warned of Thick Fog, Black Ice

Black Friday shoppers need to be careful for thick fog and the possibility of black ice on Friday morning.

Weather forecasters are warning that “an abundance of low-level moisture coupled with falling temperatures” may lead to some black ice during late Thursday night and the early morning hours of Friday. The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement at 9:28 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, warning Black Friday shoppers about the possibility of hazardous driving conditions. The weather service said that thick fog will develop in certain areas – especially “across the coastal plain” and near water bodies that will drop the visibility to a quarter mile or less. Black Friday shoppers headed out for early morning store openings are warned to be on the lookout for “locally dense fog and the plausibility for black ice along roadways.” “…

Five Things to Know About Shopping in Hamilton and Wenham

The usual morning "Five Things" column that typically comes to you each weekday morning instead this Friday morning is focused on just one topic - shopping.

On “Black Friday,” allegedly one of the busiest shopping days of the year, we give you some things to know about shopping right here in Hamilton and Wenham. 1. Parking: Unlike the downtown areas in many communities, it does not cost a cent to park in downtown Hamilton, whether it is at the plaza or on Railroad Avenue. The same goes for Wenham. Take your time with no worries about feeding the meter or getting a ticket. But you should still remember parking laws, including following the posted signs and keeping away from fire hydrants and street corners. 2. What's Open and Closed on the Friday After Thanksgiving

Here's a look at what will be open and closed in Hamilton and Wenham on "Black Friday" - the day after Thanksgiving.

Most businesses are open on Friday, but here's a look at some of the local offices and businesses in Hamiulton and Wenham and whether it is open on Friday. Government offices: Hamilton Town Hall is closed on Friday, while Wenham Town Hall is open. All schools are closed. Hamilton-Wenham Library will be open its regular Friday hours, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Trash: There was no trash pickup on Thanksgiving in Hamilton, so pickup has been pushed back by a day for the rest of the week. Typical Thursday pickup will happen on Friday and typical Friday pickup will happen on Saturday. Not a fan of braving the traffic and crowds the day after Thanksgiving at the malls just to get a deal on Black Friday? Then consider the plethora of wonderful opportunities to shop locally right here in Hamilton and Wenham.

Most local merchants will be open and ready to help with your Christmas shopping list not only on Friday, but also on Nov. 26 for the second annual American Express Small Business Saturday. This is one of the busiest holiday weekends and showing support for small businesses helps everyone. If you are not sure where to start, here are a few ideas offered by local businesses: 1.
