Hamilton Man Honored as 'Mission into Action" Hero [VIDEO]

Paul Willis of Hamilton was recognized this week as one of the Red Cross of Northeast Massachusetts' Community Heroes for helping a man who had suffered a heart attack during a basketball game last September.

Paul Willis of Hamilton played a key role in saving another basketball player's life last year in Manchester-by-the-Sea and he was honored this week for his action by the local chapter of the American Red Cross. He was awarded the "Mission into Action" award. Willis was named a Community Hero and accepted the award during a breakfast ceremony on Thursday at the DoubleTree by Hilton Boston North Shore Hotel in Danvers (see attached video). Also accepting the honor for the her actions that same say was Jill Levine, the athletic trainer at Manchester-Essex Regional High School. It started when Levine saw a player, Steve Lindland, shows signs of distress while playing a game of basketball on Sept. 10, 2012 at the Manchester-Essex high school …

Today is Friday, Jan. 18. Here are five things you need to know in Hamilton and Wenham:  1. Colder: While the sun is forecasted to return on Friday, it will be a whole lot colder. The high temperature is not expected to get above freezing and the wind will be gusting to 30 miles per hour out of the west. 2. Heroes: If you know a local hero, Friday is the final day to nominate that person for this year’s Community Heroes Awards. Know a Local Hero? Red Cross Extends Deadline for Nominations

The American Red Cross of Northeast Massachusetts is looking for North Shore heroes.

Do you know a hero living in Hamilton and Wenham or on the North Shore? The American Red Cross of Northeast Massachusetts has its Annual Heroes Breakfast planned for the DoubleTree by Hilton Boston North Shore hotel in March. The nomination period had originally been closed but it now has been extended to Jan. 18. The nomination form is attached to this story as a PDF. The Red Cross says to ask yourself: "Is there a member of your community who has done something extraordinary? Someone who exhibits care and compassion for others?" Those are the types of people the Red Cross is looking for its six awards: The territory for the American Red Cross of Northeast Massachusetts runs from Amesbury down to Lynn and includes both Hamilton and Wenham…

Hamilton Mom Hopes to Help Sandy Victims Who Helped Her on Sept. 11

The caring of Red Cross volunteers in the days following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks have not been forgotten by a Hamilton woman, who has packed a van with supplies for the victims of Hurricane Sandy.

A Hamilton mother is on the road to the New York City borough of Queens on Thursday morning to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy. For Martha Hale Farrell, it is her way to help after rescue workers and American Red Cross volunteers were so caring and helpful to her after the loss of her sister in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Her sister, Maile Hale, worked in Cambridge and was attending a two-day conference at the Windows on the World restaurant at the top of the World Trade Center when terrorists struck it in 2001. A month after the attacks – Hale remembers it like it was yesterday – she was attending a memorial service at Ground Zero. Tornado Relief: MBTA commuter rail riders have a chance between now and July 20 to help victims of last month’s tornadoes in western Massachusetts. The operator of commuter rail - Massachusetts Bay Commuter Railroad – plus the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army began a Tornado Relief Drive on July 6.
