The Mite 2s were tops on Martha's Vineyard this past weekend.
The Agawam Chiefs Mite 2s youth hockey team went 4-0 on Martha's Vineyard this past weekend on their way to capturing the 23rd Annual Red Kennedy Mite C Tournament. The Chiefs won their first game 7-0 on Friday night against the Martha's Vineyard Purple team. They beat the Martha's Vineyard White team Saturday morning 10–2 to set up a showdown against the undefeated Minuteman Lady Flames from Worcester on Saturday night. In a well-played game by both teams, the Chiefs battled back twice for a 3–2 win to set up a repeat performance on Sunday morning for the championship. The Agawam Youth Hockey program had a successful weekend at the annual Larry Fournier hockey tournament.
On a snowy weekend, the Agawam Youth Hockey Program, the town hockey program of Hamilton, Wenham, Ipswich, Manchester and Essex, once again participated in the annual Larry Fournier hockey tournament held in Newburyport, MA. In its 26th year, this year’s tournament spanned 11 days and three rinks, with more than 1,000 young players from across 67 teams and 13 divisions participating in the event. As a program, Agawam Youth Hockey entered nine teams into tournament play in this year’s tournament, the most ever. Even more impressive than the number of teams participating, however, is the success the program had in tournament play. The Agawam Youth Hockey Chiefs had a tie and a win versus top competition during the past weekend.
The Agawam Squirt 1 team captured a win and a tie against formidable foes from the Valley League’s top division during the past weekend. On Saturday, the Chiefs held on to a hard-fought tie against a determined Melrose team. Behind solid goal tending by Jared McLaughlin, the Chiefs were powered offensively by Aidan Cann, Michael Ayers and Jimmy Ayers. Lenny Dolan, Katelyn Clarke and Kyle Khani also were instrumental in winning some of the key one-on-one battles in this back-and-forth battle. Agawam Pee-Wee 2s Top Everett/Revere The Agawam Youth Hockey Pee-Wees 2 team skated to a 3-2 victory over the Everett/Revere Pee-Wees 2 team this past weekend. The Chiefs' Charlie Davis opened the scoring with an unassisted goal in the first period while goaltender Matt Carte held firm behind defensemen Jack Dufresne, Brett Beaulieu and Nate Hyde. Everett-Revere fough back with two goals in the second period to go up 2-1. Aidan Hammond tied the game for Agawam early in the third period with assists going to Will Hogan and Owen Dorau. The Agawam Pee Wee 1's end as Runners-up and Mite AA's stay atop their division in weekend youth hockey action.
The Agawam Chiefs defeated Billerica, North Andover, and King Phillip on its way to the Championship game vs Winchester at the Deep Freeze Tournament in Waterville Valley, NH. The Chiefs success was keyed by outstanding goaltending by Henry Cabot, defense by Mark Roselli, Christian Fabbri, Ben Gibson, and Clint Gourdeau, and solid 2-way play by wings Corinna Dorr, Simon Peterson, Aidan Daley, William Jones, Cooper McNinch, Tucker Spencer and Centers Billy Curtis and Henry Jones. The Agawam Chiefs Mite 2s topped the Mid Fairfield Connecticut Yankees 4-0 on Saturday to win the championship for their division at the 2012 Dana Hennigar Memorial Mite Tournament in Reading. The Chiefs went undefeated in the tournament; beating Reading 4-2, Mid Fairfield 5-3 and Masco 4-1 on the way to their championship faceoff with Mid Fairfield. Sam Phippin opened the scoring at 10:05 of the first period with what proved to be the game winner with assists to Bodin Jobe and Quinn Brady. With the period winding down goalie Matthew Cusolito turned aside a Mid Fairfield breakaway bid to even the score. A wrap-up of Agawam youth hockey games from the past weekend.
In two games this past weekend, the Agawam Chief Mite teams skated against Andover in some competitive games. Agawam Mites Beat Andover 4-2 The Agawam Mite AA squad traveled to Philips Andover Academy Saturday afternoon to face their feisty League rival, Andover. The game went back and forth in the first period with Agawam goaltender Sam York and the Andover Keeper making several key stops. Agawam finally broke the scoreless deadlock early in the second period with 2 goals from Jack Erdmann, the first off a gorgeous Owen Faldi pass in the corner. Agawam Mite A Youth Hockey Team ended a successful season on Saturday with a league championship win over top-ranked Stoneham.

The Agawam Mite A Youth Hockey Team traveled to the Malden Ice Palace Saturday morning to battle league rival Stoneham to decide the League Championship. Stoneham entered the tournament as the No. 1 seed while the Chiefs were the No. 3 seed. As was the case for their previous five contests, the game was hotly contested. Stoneham opened the scoring early in the first period, while Agawam countered with a top shelf wrist shot off the stick of Luc Moruzzi and a nifty breakaway goal from high scoring centerman Jimmy Ayers. The game went back and forth from there with no team having more than a one goal lead. Agawam struck two more times in regulation, including a gorgeous tip-in goal by Ayers off a Jack Erdmann shot from outside the faceoff …
