The Agawam Mite A Youth Hockey Team traveled to the Malden Ice Palace Saturday morning to battle league rival Stoneham to decide the League Championship. Stoneham entered the tournament as the No. 1 seed while the Chiefs were the No. 3 seed. As was the case for their previous five contests, the game was hotly contested. Stoneham opened the scoring early in the first period, while Agawam countered with a top shelf wrist shot off the stick of Luc Moruzzi and a nifty breakaway goal from high scoring centerman Jimmy Ayers. The game went back and forth from there with no team having more than a one goal lead. Agawam struck two more times in regulation, including a gorgeous tip-in goal by Ayers off a Jack Erdmann shot from outside the faceoff …

The Agawam Chief Squirt AAA youth hockey team team traveled to Malden on Friday night for a rematch against a scrappy Winthop team that had beaten them one week earlier. In the second meeting, however, there would be a different outcome as Agawam seemed determined from the onset to avenge the earlier loss. The Chiefs benefitted from the ferocious back-checking of Michael Ayers, Cooper McNinch, Aidan Cann and Clint Gourdeau and from another solid performance in goal by Henry Cabot, who notched another shut-out. Offensively, the Chiefs scoring was started early by Will Jones, who blasted a blistering-wrist shot (unofficially clocked at 109 mph) from the left side that found its way into the top corner. Jones got the Chiefs on the board again…

Connor Gilligan got the Chiefs on the board as he gathered his own rebound and fired it into the top corner. Henry Jones then slid a nice feed across the crease to Spencer, who buried it for a 2-0 Chiefs lead. Spencer made it 3-0 as Jones again found him open in the slot. Tewksbury answered with a goal, but Spencer made it 4-1 after he took another feed from Jones and raced down the ice for the answering tally. Sam Cabot made it 5-1 as he finished a nice end to end rush. Solid defense by Sam Cabot, Brynn O'Connor and Mark Roselli and goaltending by Drew Bealeau kept the game firmly in hand.

Agawam Squirts Duel Natick to a 2-2 Tie The Agawam Chief Squirt AA youth hockey team continued their successful season even after being moved up to the Valley League’s highest division on Sunday, skating to a 2-2 tie against Natick. Showing they could compete at the league’s highest level, the Chiefs skated hard against Natick despite being without their starting goalie, Henry Cabot, who was sidelined with an injury. In Cabot’s place, goalie Jared McLaughlin stepped up immensely, continually protecting the Chiefs’ net against quality shots on goal. McLaughlin benefitted from ferocious overall team defense and backchecking from Michael Ayers, Conor Evers and Cooper McNinch who thrwarted several Natick trips into the offensive zone. The …
