Restaurant Week Kickoff and Rare Island Adventure on Weekend Calendar

1. HUGE MULTI-FAMILY YARD SALE AND FLEA MARKET TO BENEFIT FAMILIES WHO HAVE RECENTLY LOST A PARENT

Where/When: 15 Sagamore Farm Road, Hamilton; Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Why Go: Several families in the Hamilton and Wenham community have been hit hard lately with the loss of a parent. This yard sale and flea market with raise money for those families, which will get 100 percent of the proceeds of items that are dropped off and a portion of other participating vendors will be donated. There are at least 10 vendor participating, offering everything from housewares and collectibles to sports equipment and holiday supplies.

Pricing: Free to attend, pricing varies

2. BEVERLY FALL RESTAURANT WEEK

Where/When: Various Beverly restaurants; Sunday through Thursday night

Why Go: A dozen Beverly restaurants will be offering special, fixed price dinner deals from Sunday through Thursday night, including the Columbus Day holiday. Restaurants will offer either a two-course, prix-fixe dinner for $15 and/or a three-course, prix-fixe dinner for $25. The price does not include drinks, taxes or gratuities. Participating restaurants include Chianti Tuscan Restaurant and Trattoria BellaMia in the downtown and Cygnet Restaurant and Hale Street Tavern in Beverly Farms.

Pricing: $15 for two course dinners and $25 for three course dinners, menu offerings vary by restaurant

3. 2ND ANNUAL RICEY'S RUN

Where/When: Italian-American Citizens Club, 7 Blaney Ave. Peabody; Saturday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Why Go: The second annual motorcycle ride around Essex County in memory of fallen Peabody firefighter Jim Rice is coming up Saturday. The ride will be led off by Engine 5 (Rice's company) and is also sponsored by the Leatherheads Firefighter's Motorcycle Club. The hourlong ride begins at the Italian-American Citizens Club at noon. Proceeds go toward the Jim Rice Memorial Fund. Registration is 10-11:45 a.m. Following the ride, a DJ, food and activities will be in the function hall at the IACC from 2-5 p.m.

Pricing: $20 per motorcycle, $5 per passenger, $5 walk-in

4. LUNGSTRONG 5K AND MILE FUN RUN

Where/When: 66 Cherry Hill Dr., Beverly; Sunday, 11 a.m.

Why Go: The first annual LUNGstrong 5K will held Sunday at Cherry Hill Industrial Park to support lung cancer research being done at Mass. General Hospital. The 5K starts at 11 a.m., followed by the mile long fun run at 12:15 p.m.

Pricing: $30 for 5K, $10 for fun run

CHOATE ISLAND DAY

Where/When: Crane Beach and Choate Island, Ipswich; Saturday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Why Go: Choate Island is a refuge in Essex Bay that is not often seen but Saturday is one of the rare chance to get out there to explore. It is home to wildlife and plant life plus the Choate family homestead, Proctor Barn and White Cottage, according to the Trustees of the Reservations, which owns and operates the island. Boat rides will be offered on Saturday and Trustees staff will be available to answer questions and give island tours.

Pricing: Trustees of the Reservations members are $10 for adults and $5 for children; Nonmembers are $15 for adults and $10 for children.
