On-Grounds Parade: What to Know About the Topsfield Fair on Sunday, Oct. 13

Here's a look at some of the special things you will find at the Topsfield Fair on Sunday, Oct. 13. Check for this daily feature through the fair's closing day on Columbus Day, Monday, Oct. 14.

Sunday, Oct. 13 is the tenth (and next to last) day of the 2013 Topsfield Fair, the oldest fair in the country. It is Grange Day at the fair.

Gates open at 10 a.m. and close at 11 p.m. at the Essex Agricultural Society's Fairgrounds at 207 Boston St. (Route 1) in Topsfield. The agricultural buildings close at 10 p.m.

The weather forecast calls for a sunny day with temperatures getting into the low-60s with a light east wind.

In the grandstand, it is the second of three days of performances for the Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show. Performances are at 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. and each show in included with the price of admission.

The final on-grounds parade of the 2013 fair is on Sunday night at 5 p.m., where horses, antique cars, floats and other make their way along the main roads of the fair.

It is Sunday, so First Congregational Church of Boxford will hold church services on the Trianon Stage at 10 a.m.

The newest Mrs. Essex County will be crowned in the pageant, which starts at 2 p.m. in Coolidge Hall.

In the arena, draft horses will be on display for most of the day. At 1:30 p.m., the Hallamore Clydesdale 8-Horse Hitch will perform. The Supreme 6-Horse Hitch can be seen at 7:30 p.m. in the arena.

On Arena Road (the road between the pig barn and arena), a High Dive Show will perform at noon, 2 p.m., 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Lon Cerel will put on a show for kids with magic and balloons in the picnic area at 11 a.m. and and 3 p.m. and on the Kiddie Land stage at 1 p.m.

2013 American Honey Queen Caroline Adams and 2013 Essex County Honey Ambassador Stephen Sample will be in the beekeeping building all day.

The State Police K-9 Unit will be on display in the Essex County Farmyard (across from Coolidge Hall) at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.

The ever-popular Money Pole game will happen in the Essex County Farmyard at 10 a.m., 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Performers on the Trianon Stage will include The Bubble Show at noon, Macayla from 2-5 p.m. and Big City Ramblers from 6-9 p.m.

Admission is weekend pricing - $15 for adults on Sunday. Children under eight are free with a paying adult. Parking is $10 per car. Satellite parking for $5 will also be available at Masconomet Regional High School and the Danvers campus of North Shore Community College with free shuttle bus service on back roads with less traffic to get to the fair.
