Find Santa at the Swampwalk, in a Parade Plus Shop Small This Weekend

It's the weekend after Thanksgiving -- the ending to a four-day weekend for some people. Below you will find the when and where for some of our picks for weekend happenings, including some appearances by Santa Claus. There's also a lot of other events going on this weekend in Hamilton and Wenham and the nearby area of the North Shore.

1. SANTA AT THE SWAMPWALK

Where/When: Danvers-Wenham Swampwalk; Saturday, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Why Go: It was a unique way to meet Santa that started last year on the newly completed Swampwalk, and this year it returns. Santa will be out on the Swampwalk to meet children and take photos, with all the proceeds going to Toys for Tots. You can get to the Swampwalk by accessing the Rail Trail from either the parking area on Route 97 at the Danvers-Wenham-Topsfield town lines or from Choate Farm off Locust Street (Route 35) in Danvers.

2. HOLIDAY (SANTA) PARADE

Where/When: Downtown Beverly, Cabot, Elliott and Rantoul streets; Sunday, kickoff 1:30 p.m.

Why Go: It's a 66 year tradition - floats, marching band, antique cars, fire trucks and more parade through downtown Beverly on the Sunday after Thanksgiving in one of the largest parades of the year on the North Shore.

3. CHRISTMAS LIGHTS, COOKIES, COCOA AND SANTA

Where/When: 3-5 Arthur St., Danvers; Saturday, 5 p.m.

Why Go: The Elliotts and Boudreaus will be lighting up their homes for the holidays again and holding their third annual fundraiser for Children's Hospital Boston. Santa will be available for pictures and you can make a donation while you admire the lights over a hot cup of cocoa and some cookies.

4. HOLIDAY CRAFT FAIR AND DONATE SOME TOYS FOR TOTS

Where/When: 63 Pulaski St., Peabody; Saturday, 10 a.m.

Why Go: Gymboree will be hosting a holiday craft fair and will also be accepting donations for Toys for Tots. With every donated new, unwrapped toy, you'll also get a raffle ticket for a chance to win a gift from one of the craft vendors. And if you bring the kids, there is a play area for them while you shop.

5. SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY

Where/When: Any small business in Beverly, Danvers, Hamilton, Peabody or Wenham; Saturday, all day

Why Go: Saturday is a day set aside specifically to call attention to the small businesses in our communities. Many of them are offering specials, and if you make a charge of more than $10 at a participating small business you'll get a credit of $10 on your next statement. There are literally hundreds of business on the North Shore participating.
