POOL FACTS (Everyone Should Know), PART III

FACT:

There will be NO VOTE on the pool at the upcoming Annual Town Meeting in Hamilton.

The Hamilton Board of Selectmen made the decision, based upon the high cost of the construction bids, to "reset" the entire project.  Town Manager Michael Lombardo has been charged with reviewing and researching the project, starting from the ground up, to determine if the Town can afford a new pool at all.

To put it simply, the extremely high price for replacing the pool was unsurmountable.

Four and a half months ago, at the Hamilton Special Town Meeting, EiE recommended a course of action that has now become a necessary reality. It is disappointing that it has taken so long to see what we have been trying to communicate all along.

We commend the Joint Recreation Committee for its hard work, and also the Blue Ribbon Committee. And we thank our members for their unwavering support.

Lastly, we will continue to address the implementation of our recommendations in a spirit of respect and cooperation.

After all, we all want a pool, but it must be at a size, scope and cost that is reasonable, affordable, and fiscally responsible.
