Wenham Paralympian Medals in Sochi

Laurie Stephens earned bronze in the women's sitting downhill.

Wenham's Laurie Stephens won a bronze medal in the Sochi Paralympics over the weekend.

Stephens won bronze in the women’s sitting downhill on Saturday.

"That is pretty exciting,” Stephens said in a statement. “I was really nervous going into it. They've been working really hard on the course, and the track was in great condition."

Stephens, 29, was born with spina bifida. She started skiing at age 12 as part of a disabled group who started training at Loon Mountain in New Hampshire. She's a 2002 graduate of Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School and now lives in Aspen, Colorado.
