Star Generals QB to Play at Bates

The Generals quarterback that led the team to an undefeated regular season in 2011 and the school's first-ever Super Bowl appearance will play college ball at Bates.

Another Generals gridiron star is headed to the New England Small College Athletic Conference.

The Boston Herald blog "High School Insider" reported on Monday that senior quarterback Trevor Lyons will play at Bates College, a NESCAC Div. 3 school.

Lyons led the Generals to a Northeastern Conference/Cape Ann League Tier 4 title in 2011 and took the undefeated team to the Div. 3A Super Bowl - school's first-ever appearance in the big game.

While Lyons was knocked out of the Super Bowl game with a shoulder injury and Hamilton-Wenham fell to Bourne, Lyons came back this season to set the school record with 15 touchdown passes in a season. Lyons finished the season with 1,184 throwing yards, 913 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns, the Herald reported.

Lyons will join a cadre of former Generals in the NESCAC, including 2010 graduates James Brao, who is at Tufts University and Jake Prince, who is at Bowdoin College. The two have faced each other in each of the past two seasons. Last year, 2011 graduate Shane Jenkins joined them in the NESCAC while at Weslayan University.
