School Canceled for Friday, Roof Snow Removal to be Conducted

Hamilton-Wenham school officials have closed school for Friday so they can spend the weekend clearing the school roofs of snow.

will be closed again on Friday so private contractors can clear snow from school roofs.

As of 1 p.m. on Thursday, no school roofs had yet been cleared.

Assistant Schools Superintendent Peter Gray announced in an e-mail notification at 1:40 p.m. on Thursday that “a structural engineer has visited our school buildings and based on his recommendation we are cancelling school for tomorrow.”

On Friday, workers will remove snow from the roofs beginning with the and . Snow removal from the roofs is anticipated to last through the weekend.

“With another storm expected to arrive on Saturday the combination of heavy snow mixed with potential rain requires us to hire a contractor to assist in removal of all snow,” Gray said in his announcement.

Currently, the last day of school is scheduled for June 27 and Gray said that parents and students would be surveyed next week about some of the alternatives to extending the school year.
