'Quiz Show' Title Comes Home to Hamilton-Wenham for Second Straight Year

The Hamilton-Wenham team won the High School Quiz Show on Sunday for the second straight year in an episode that aired on Sunday night on WGBH-TV.

The College Bowl team has successfully defended its 2011 State Championship title on High School Quiz Show, winning the 2012 High School Quiz Show State Championship on Sunday.

The Championship match against aired on Sunday on WGBH-TV channel 2. Not only was , so was the opponent. Last year, the two high school teams faced each other in the show’s Eastern Massachusetts finals.

On the way to the championship, Hamilton-Wenham also . Other opponents includes Cape Ann rival Rockport, a game that went into overtime.

High School Quiz Show is hosted by North Shore resident Billy Costa and showcases students from across Massachusetts and celebrates academic achievement. Hamilton-Wenham Regional earned a spot in the championship by bettering an initial field of 91 teams in a “Super Sunday” qualifier last fall that consisted of a 100-question oral quiz. From there, the Generals were part of a narrowed down field that took part in a 16-team tournament-style competition that has aired on channel 2 on Sunday nights since February.

Quiz Show features four rounds of questions aligned with the Massachusetts high school curriculum standards ranging from literature to history to science and current events. Survivor host Jeff Probst, actor Casey Affleck and former Red Sox pitcher Dennis Eckersley were among those who provided video questions. The season ended with the first-ever Celebrity High School Quiz Show, featuring local celebrities Joanne Chang, Jeff Kinney, Keith Lockhart, Mish Michaels, Wesley Morris, Matt Siegel, Jimmy Tingle, and Susan Wornick.

Great job - again! Good luck to the seniors as they move on to college - hope that you have as much success - and here's hoping that the returning juniors and new members can possibly "three-peat"
