New School Committee Member to be Picked Thursday Night

The two candidates to fill an empty spot on the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School Committee will be interviewed and then selected on Thursday night.

The newest member of the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School Committee will be selected by school and town leaders on Thursday night.

Stacey Metternick and Larry Swartz will be interviewed by the eight members of the School Committee and three members of the Board of Selectmen during a joint meeting. All 11 members from both boards will then vote, according to Ken Whittaker, chairman of the Wenham Board of Selectmen.

A third candidate, who Whittaker announced at Tuesday night's Board of Selectmen meeting, Catherine Cullinane, has withdrawn.

Thursday night's meeting is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. in the multipurpose room at Buker Elementary School.

The opening on the School Committee was created when committee member Melissa Even Moore resigned from the committee in September because she was moving out of town. The seat is filled by a combined vote of the School Committee and Wenham Selectmen (the town where Moore lived) until April's election, when the remaining two years of Moore's term will be up for election.

Swartz, who is a former chairman of the Board of Selectmen, filled an empty seat on the School Committee in 2011 when Don Gallant resigned. He was then elected to fill the remaining portion of the term but did not seek reelection last spring. He lives on Conrad Circle.

Matternick lives on Dexter Lane.
