Hard Work and Leadership Earn Honor for Two Students

Two Miles River Middle School students have been honored for the top performance by the Rotary Club.

Miles River Middle School students Karen Caufield and Grace Moroney have been awarded Outstanding Accomplishment Certificates by the Hamilton-Wenham Rotary Club.

The awards were handed out at the Rotary Club’s weekly Friday breakfast meeting at the Community House of Hamilton-Wenham. Caufield received the award for Academic Excellence and Moroney for Citizenship.

"Karen's hard work, persistence, and attention to form and style serves to catapult her level of success to the top while also providing a model for other students,” a teacher wrote about Caufield in nominating her. “She is attentive and respectful towards both adult mentors and student peers; She asks relevant and insightful questions, assists others, and consistently produces a quality of work that approaches professional. Karen is an exemplary student who is destined for great things in life."

A school administrator nominated Moroney for the award.

"Grace Moroney is a conscientious student and true student leader; In addition to serving as the Vice President of the Student Council and as an 8th Grade Mentor, she also sets a positive example for her peers on a daily basis,” the administrator wrote in nominating Moroney. “I have been impressed with the maturity and thoughtfulness she exhibits in her interactions with others. In fact, earlier this year, Grace intervened on a school bus when she observed one student mistreating another student. She acted with courage and compassion, and, just like her name, with ‘grace’. Miles River is lucky to have her!"
