The students are among about 34,000 commended students across the country that have been recognized for “exceptional academic promise” but will not continue in competition for a 2014 National Merit Scholarship award.

Commended students are in the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2014 competition last year by taking the 2012 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
