Books and Family Fun Highlight Local Weekend Calendar

A quick, fun look at local events in Hamilton and Wenham coming up this weekend.

The weekend has it all, from a piano improviser at Gordon College to the semiannual book sale at the library.

There’s also a chance to get a look at the many options for children in the two towns plus entertain the kids and get some food at Familypalooza and there’s a “My Daddy Rocks” concert to the Community House too.

Where/When: Phillips Music Center, Recital Hall, ; Friday, 8 p.m.

Why Go: Gregg Kallor is a pianist and improviser who will be performing a solo piano recital that will include the state premiere of his musical tableau of life in New York City - A Single Moon.

Pricing: $20 general admission, $10 for seniors

Where/When: ; Saturday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.; Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. and Thursday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Why Go: There’s always a great selection of used books for all ages at affordable prices – grab some beach reading for the adults and some new stories for the kids.

Pricing: Free admission, book prices vary

Where/When: ; Saturday, 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Why Go: It is a chance to get information about the many local child care centers, preschools, summer camps, organizations, and businesses providing services to families with children ages birth to 8 years old plus have fun with entertainment by Pate Bade "The Owl Lady", storyteller Tony Toledo and a Babies and Books sessions with Sue Shepherd. Plus, there will be raffles, baked goods, pizza from Daniella's and ice cream from Treadwell's for sale.

Pricing: Free, charge for food

4. LATE WINTER PRUNING WORKSHOP

Where/When: Long Hill Reservation, 572 Essex St., Beverly; Saturday 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Why Go: We've arrived at the time of the year when you're cleaning up the yard after winter, and with some expert advice you can find out the best way to prune woody plants, plus get tips on the right tools and techniques.

Pricing: $35, $28 for Trustees of the Reservations members

5. MY DADDY ROCKS

Where/When: ; Saturday, 2 p.m.

Why Go: Brian Doser, a.k.a. the Music Man, brings together families on Saturday afternoon to sing some classics and some originals in his popular "My Daddy Rocks" concert.

Pricing: $7 per person, in advance, $9 at the door, dads are free and $25 maximum per family
