VIDEO/IMAGE GALLERY: Wenham Postmaster Mary Ring Retires After 10 Years

The Wenham Post Office honored retired Postmaster Mary Ring on Saturday as part of "Customer Appreciation Day."

At the  on Saturday, Mary Ring greeted customers and friends like it was any other day, but the cake and giant card from colleagues signaled the end of Ring's 18-year career for the U.S. Postal Service.

Ring retired after 10 years as Wenham postmaster Nov. 30, and she said it's time that she finally got to spend a winter at her place in Ft. Myers, FL.

Ring took over the job of postmaster from Don Luxton 10 years ago. Luxton and Ring's family, friends and colleagues wished her well on Saturday morning during Customer Appreciation Day.

On one Saturday before Christmas each year, the post office holds its customer appreciation day with food and coffee, and usually a smile and greeting from Ring.

"She's done it for years," said Ring's sister, Julie Welch, herself a retired postal worker.

Ring's son, Denis Ring, is also in public service as a firefighter in Lynn. 

"Everybody knows everybody here. It really has become like a family," Ring said. "It's been a wonderful job, I couldn't ask for better."
