VIDEO: Tierney Speaks to Congress on Student Loans

On Wednesday he pushed for rates to be frozen.

Student loan interest rates are a big topic this election, with rates set to double from 3.4 percent to 6.8 percent on July 1, impacting about 177,000 students in Massachusetts.

Congressman John Tierney spoke to Congress Wednesday pushing for legislation to freeze rates as they are and blasting House leadership for not including it on their summer agenda, and the video is on Youtube.

The sticking point in the debate seems to be how to pay for the $6 billion a rate freeze would cost the government, with Republicans proposing the money be taken from a fund in the new health care law and Democrats proposing paying for it by ending oil subsidies.
