Three School Committee Members Won't Seek Reelection in Spring Election

Three of the four Hamilton-Wenham Regional School Committee members up for reelection this spring have said they will not run again.

At least three positions will be open this spring on the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School Committee.

Three of the four committee members have said they will not seek reelection this spring.

School Committee Chairman Roger Kuebel plus committee members Sean Condon and Larry Swartz all said they would not run for another term.

Kuebel and Condon were elected for the first time in 2011 and are finishing a three-year term.

“When I first ran I stated that I would only serve for one term, and I have not changed my position,” Kuebel said.

Swartz was appointed to the committee in November to fill a vacancy when committee member Melissa Even Moore, who was elected last April, resigned because he family moved from Wenham.

“I've learned to never say never, but I did explain to the (School Committee and Wenham Board of Selectmen) members during the appointment process that my intention was to not run in the spring and I still do not plan to run,” Swartz said in response to an inquiry from Patch.

Voters in both Hamilton and Wenham will fill the remaining two years of Moore’s term this spring.

Similarly, Condon said he would not seek another three-year term.

The other School Committee up for reelection, Bill Dery, could not be reached for comment.

Nomination papers for the School Committee positions will be available on Friday, Jan. 10 at the Superintendent’s Office, 5 School St. in Wenham.

A total of three, three-year terms and one, two-year term to fill Moore’s unexpired term is open.

The papers must be returned with at least 40 registered voters signatures and be verified with the voter lists from the towns of Hamilton and Wenham before 4 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 24, according to Donna Bunk, the Superintendent’s administrative assistant.

Anyone with questions can call Bunk at 978-626-0821.
