Teachers and Students Donate 100 Turkey Dinners

Students, teachers and staff at the high school and middle school donated their money and time to assemble about 100 turkey dinners for local families.

Local students and teachers teamed up with Hamilton-Wenham Rotary during the past few days to buy and assemble more than 100 turkey dinners for local, needy families.

The faculty and staff at and pledged to buy the turkeys and students at the schools pledged to bags with all the fixings.

The $1,000 that was donated bought 126 turkeys. The fixings included a total of 120 pounds of onions, 48 pounds of carrots, two cases of gravy, stuffing and 36 pies.

“We did this last year so it is our second annual turkey drive,” said Kevan Sano, a Spanish teacher at the high school who helped coordinate the effort. This year’s collection exceeded last year’s, she said.

The turkeys and bags full of all the ingredients fro all the fixings were delivered to last week and during the weekend.

Acord, which is moving into its new home on Willow Street this weekend and will reopen there next Wednesday, serves residents of Essex, Hamilton, Ipswich, Manchester-by-the-Sea, Topsfield and Wenham.
