Stinson May Run for Selectman in Hamilton

The former board member recently got back into town politics, joining the Hamilton Finance and Advisory Committee.

Former Hamilton Selectman Jeff Stinson has entered back into town politics with his recent appointment to the Hamilton Finance and Advisory Committee, and said he is considering a run for the Board of Selectmen this year.

Stinson was unanimously recommended for finance committee position by the Board of Selectmen back in December and was appointed by Town Moderator Bruce Ramsey that same month.

Stinson was the youngest selectman elected in Hamilton’s history when he won his seat back in May of 2010. He opted not to run for re-election in 2013 in order to prepare for the Massachusetts Bar Exam, which he passed in July. He recently opened his own law practice in Topsfield.

He said he is excited to join the ranks of town politics again, and cited his eagerness to get down to the “nuts and bolts” of the town budget.

"This gives me a unique opportunity to dig into the detail of the town budget and understand exactly how things come together," he said. "I want to make sure that we are running an effective and efficient operation."

Stinson said he's heard from many residents encouraging him to run for selectman again.

"A lot of people have been asking me to run for selectman again this year. I am giving it a lot of thought," he said. "I think that my approach to issues and people is effective and would be welcomed by the board and the community."
