Last Chance: Deadlines You Need to Know This Week

An opportunity to register for kindergarten and evaluations for youth hockey are all coming up this week in Hamilton and Wenham.

Welcome to Last Chance, a new feature that will provide a list of upcoming deadlines that you may want to know about. We’ll feature the latest deadlines to take a class, join a bus trip to Foxwoods or register to vote.

Here is a list of important dates that Hamilton and Wenham residents will want to know this week.

Agawam Youth Hockey: Evaluations for the various levels of Agawam Youth Hockey begin on Wednesday, March 28 at the Johnson Rink at .  On Wednesday, Squirts evaluations will run 5:40-6:40 p.m. (birth years 2002 and 2003) and Peewees (birth years 2000 and 2001) 6:50-7:50 p.m.

On Friday, evaluations for Mites (birth year 2004 and younger) will run 4:30-5:30 p.m. and Bantams (birth years 1998 and 1999) from 5:40-6:40 p.m. There is a $150 deposit due at the evaluations.

Buker Auction: The silent auction for the Friends of ends at 11 p.m. on Monday. There’s a wide variety of items available, from a private ski lesson with a former NCAA Div. 1 ski racer to a birthday party at MetroBowl.

But the group’s at Backstage Bistro at the North Shore Music Theater, with advance tickets available now. The price goes up at the door.

Friends of Hamilton-Wenham Public Book Sale: This week marks the final few days for the semi-annual book sale. The sale runs Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at the . There are some greats deals available on books and all proceeds go to the Friends group.

Kindergarten Registration: Registration for kindergarten is happening this week for the . Paperwork can be found on the school district’s website under the “district registration” heading. Forms can be returned to Registrar Donna Bunk at the district office Monday through Friday this week from 9 a.m. to noon and on Wednesday, March 28 from 2-6 p.m.

Megamillions: One of the largest jackpots in recent memory could be awarded in Tuesday night’s Megamillions drawing. You can buy a ticket for the $363 million jackpot at several locations in Hamilton and Wenham, including , , ,  in Wenham and  in Wenham.

Mullen Tours: The owner and developer of continues will tours this week. This week, tours are scheduled at various times on Wednesday, March 28; Thursday, March 29 and Friday, March 30. If you are interested, call 978-468-2645 or send an email to lizblodgett@penguinhall.net

Nonprofit Excellence: The deadline to nominate a local group for the 2012 Nonprofit Excellence Awards is Wednesday, March 28. The fourth annual awards from the Massachusetts Nonprofit Network are designed to “recognize the work of exceptional nonprofits and nonprofit leaders in communities across the state.”

The winner will be announced at Nonprofit Awareness Day on June 11 at the State House. A full description of the award categories and nomination forms are available on the Massachusetts Nonprofit Network’s website

Scouting for Food: This Saturday, Boy Scouts from Troop 28 and Cub Scouts from Pack 28 will be collecting food door-to-door with the . This week is the time to make sure you have some food to place out before 9 a.m. on Saturday. All the food goes to in Hamilton. In particular need is Jelly and jam; Coffee, tea and cocoa mix; 100 percent juice in cans, bottles or juice boxes; Healthy school snacks for kids (such as granola bars and raisins); Baby food and formula; Diapers; Essential personal care items (such as soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, feminine products); Cereal; Mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard and salad dressing; Rice; Meals in a can (chili, beef stew, etc.); Baked beans; Chunky, hearty soups and baking mixes.

Trustees of the Reservations: The owner of here in Hamilton as well as the popular Crane Beach in Ipswich and Long Hill Reservation in Beverly – Trustees of the Reservations – is nearing the end of its fiscal year on March 31. And the Trustees have a push to raise $30,000 “to close out our budget and keep our momentum going.”
