Last Chance: Deadlines You Need to Know in Hamilton and Wenham This Week

An opportunity to register for this summer's Wenham Village Improvement Society summer camp and a chance to speak with the final two school superintendent are two "last chances" coming up this week.

Teen Poetry Contest

Monday is the deadline to enter second annual . Teenagers in grades 6 to 12 can enter and ends at midnight on Monday night, April 30. Poems must incorporate two personas, characters, or viewpoints and up to three poems per person can be entered. Poems can be entered online. Cash prizes will be awarded in two age categories at the contest reception on May 15.

United Way

Monday is the final day for the North Shore United Way’s Annual Campaign. Each year, the campaign’s $1 million in grants help 26,000 people on the North Shore. The campaign helps support affordable housing, childcare centers and “other critical programs.” The United Way said that this year’s campaign may fall as much as $100,000 short of previous years because of decreased large corporate campaigns. Donations are tax-deductible.

School Superintendent Candidate Interviews

There is a chance for the public to meet with the final two of four candidates for school superintendent this week.

The parent and community meeting portion with each candidate happens from 10:15-11:15 at Hamilton-Wenham Library on Monday and Tuesday. The schedule is:

Monday, April 30 for William Hart, currently Assistant Superintendent for Pentucket Regional Schools.

Tuesday, May 1 for Michael Harvey, currently Principal of Belmont High School.

Fresh Air Fund

If you are interested in being a host family for the Fresh Air Fund this summer, there’s a chance to find out more about the program at a drop-in session at Hamilton-Wenham Library on Tuesday.

Stop in between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to hear about the program, that brings children age 6 to 12 that come from “disadvantaged communities” in New York City. There is a specific need for host families for ages 10-12. The visit dates from the Hamilton and Wenham area are July 12-23.

Wenham Village Improvement Society Summer Program

Tuesday is the deadline to register for this . The camp is for ages 4-11 who currently live in Wenham. Activities include arts and crafts, sports, tennis with Bass River instructors, and special event day such as Fourth of July Bike Parade, Fire Day, Tie Dye and Penny Carnival. The camp runs eight week from 8 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Monday through Friday.

La Vida Family Adventure Day

Monday is the final day to register for La Vida Family Adventure Day on Saturday at . Adventure day is a “a fun and exciting outdoor adventure learning experience” for children and their families. It will include several team building activities including the high challenge course. The day runs 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. The cost is $35 each for the first for family members and $15 for any additional family members. Bring your own lunch or buy pizza.
