How Was Your Trip to School on Monday?

Let us know how things went on Monday as Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District was one of only a few districts with school on Monday.

The decision to hold school on Monday in the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District elicited quite a bit of consternation on Sunday night by users of Hamilton-Wenham Patch. They were concerned for safety, citing unplowed sidewalks and bus stops, narrow roads and reduced sightlines from large snowbanks.

Many other North Shore school districts - but not all - canceled school on Monday. Surrounding school districts including Beverly, Danvers, Ipswich and Manchester-Essex all canceled on Monday but were slated to return on Tuesday.

How did things go for you? Tell us in the comments. Did you get to school OK? Was your bus stops cleared out? Was the sidewalk near school clear? Did the bus come on time? Did you find a spot in the school parking lot? Let us know.

First off, the bus stops near school were not cleared out, nor were the sidewalks around my home in Wenham. I heard stories of a bus breakdown as well as students not being picked up because their streets were not sufficiently cleaned. I wasn't able to determine which parking spot was mine due to the fact a small layer of ice covered a lot of the spot numbers, so some people (including myself) parked in spots that were not ours.

I have to say, it was worse than I had thought. I would rather that my kids were in school than out but there were definitely very legitimate safety concerns. Our bus driver was in disbelief at the conditions he was made to maneuver the bus in. That definitely gave me pause. I believe that generally we should support our administrators and I understand that these things can be difficult to assess, but I would hope that next time we err on the side if safety.

The safety of all the kids that walk was in play here. To send out an email saying everything was cleared was a joke!!! Side walks were not cleared until noon time at best on 1a towards the High School. Dr Michael Harvey is a joke in his role and Mr Hughs is a puppet with no authority to make any decisions.

The sky fell! The sky fell!... What? Really? It didn't? We were told it was going to.
