Hamilton Police to Run Citizen Police Academy This Fall

The Hamilton Police Department is taking applications for the Citizens Police Academy, which will allow residents to get a look at police operations in weekly classes this fall.

The is running a Citizen Police Academy this fall that will give residents a chance to find out about everything from criminal law to cyber crimes and give participants a chance to ride along with police on patrol.

The academy will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 14 and run for 10 weeks – each Wednesday from 6:30-9 p.m. through Nov. 16.

The Citizen Police Academy is designed to familiarize citizens with the operation and function of the Hamilton Police Department, according to a press release announcing the academy.

Classes will cover various topics that will include criminal law, patrol procedures, domestic violence, motor vehicle enforcement, identity theft, cyber crimes, emergency communication center, court procedures and use of force.

Academy participants will also take part in a police ride along to observe police officers on patrol.

Hamilton police officers, police supervisors and dispatch personnel will teach the courses.

There is no charge to attend, but participants must be 18 years or older. The class is limited to 20 people and preference will be given to Hamilton residents.

Applications may be picked up at the Hamilton Police Department or you can request an application packet by contacting Sgt. Stephen Trepanier or Sgt. Stephen Walsh at 978-468-1212.

The deadline to submit an application is Friday, Aug. 19.
