Hamilton Hiring New DPW Director

Director of Public Works – Town of Hamilton Applications are being accepted for the position of Director of Public Works. This position reports directly to the Town Manager and performs complex administrative and professional functions while overseeing six divisions: highway, cemetery, parks and public property, garage, water distribution and water production. The director also oversees the solid waste and recycling programs in Hamilton.

This position is responsible for all project planning, the coordination of short and long range goals as they pertain to the Public Work’s operation, and for capital planning and expenditures. The applicant is responsible for assigning staff, providing technical assistance and for trench safety within the department and throughout the Town. The Director is required to communicate effectively with the public and the numerous boards and commissions and must have experience in preparing and implementing municipal budgets. 

This position requires the applicant to be familiar with all Massachusetts public bidding laws and be able to work well with consultants and contractors. Preparation of the annual statistical and consumer confidence reports along with dealing with all water permit and operation issues is required. The applicant will be required to work with and coordinate projects with personnel from Town of Wenham and the HW Regional School District and to track and report the progress and cost accordingly. An expansion of the coordination of work and projects within all three entities is being evaluated and the successful candidate must be able to provide innovative and cost effective proposals to this consideration.

A valid MA driver’s license is required and a PE registration is preferred. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field, and a minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in a public works supervisory setting. The salary is commensurate with experience.
