Can You Park on the Street in the Snow?

Winter parking rules in Hamilton and Wenham are different.

The small snowstorm on Monday prompts the question: what are the rules about parking on the street in the snow?

Here's a quick refresher: In Hamilton, on-street parking is allow during the winter unless a parking ban is enacted. The policy has been in place for about two years, since Town Meeting voters approved changing the winter parking rules in October 2011. The town bylaw now bans on-street parking in the winter only when a parking ban is announced based on a forecast for 4 inches or more of snow.

It comes with a $20 fine and the possibility that vehicles violating the parking ban could be towed at the owner's expense

In Wenham, overnight parking on the street is banned all winter. The town bylaw states that no vehicle can be parked on the street from midnight to 8 a.m. for longer than an hour between Nov. 15 and March 31 each year. It carries a $15 fine.
