Just recycling bins and organics barrels – and not black trash barrels – will be picked up this week in Hamilton.
Hamilton town officials are reminding residents that this week is a “blue bag week" for trash pickup, meaning that residents who want trash picked up . Otherwise, they need to wait until next week to put out the town-issued black barrel.
“They are only going to pick up official blue bags this week,” said Allison Jenkins, administrative assist to the .
Jenkins said workers from Hiltz will leave black barrels at the curb. Workers will look in black barrels and if there in trash in a blue bag inside they will pick it up, but it is recommended that blue bags not be put in the black barrels.
and marked “recycling” will also be picked up, as it is every week.
The new trash program began the week on April 2 and this is just the second week when the black barrels have not been picked up. The first week, on April 4-6, Town Manager Michael Lombardo said there was “some leniency” about whether the black barrels were picked up, even though it was a blue bag only week. Several Patch users reported that they saw Hiltz workers picking up the black barrels that week, but this week, the second time around as a blue bag week, Hamilton officials said that only blue bag will be picked up.
Trash is also delayed a day because of Monday’s Patriots’ Day holiday. Residents who typically get trash picked up on Wednesday will have their trash picked up on Thursday and Thursday is pushed back to Friday and typical Friday pickup will instead happen on Saturday.
