After Assault Conviction, Hill Calls on Colleague to Resign

State Rep. Brad Hill (R-Ipswich) is calling on a colleague in the House of Representatives to resign after being convicted of assault.

Hill said that after a jury found state Rep. Carlos Henriquez (D-Dorchester) guilty of two counts of assault and battery in a domestic abuse case he should resign from the House.

The Boston Globe reports Henriquez physically restrained a woman and punched her after she refused to have sex with him. He was sentenced to six months in prison.

Hill represents Hamilton and Wenham in the House and was speaking on behalf of Republican leadership in the House.

"We're hoping that he steps down, that is what he should do," Hill told Howie Carr on his radio show on WRKO-AM 680. "Now that he has been found guilty it is the right thing to do."

Hill called it a "heinous crime" and noted that both Democrats and Republicans and calling for Henriquez's resignation.

"This puts a huge, dark cloud over the legislature and the only way you remove that cloud is for him to resign," Hill said.

If Henriquez does not resign, Hill said Henriquez's case should go before the House Ethics Committee.

"I would hope that Rep. Henriquez would do this on his own and we would not need to start that process," Hill said.
