Firefighters Battle Blaze in Hamilton

The fire was reported just before 5 p.m. Thursday.

Firefighters were called to a report of a working fire on Bridge Street in Hamilton on Thursday afternoon.

The call came in around 4:40 p.m., according to emergency radio broadcasts. Smoke and fire was said to be showing from the second floor of a residential structure at 404 Bridge St.

According to a Hamilton Fire Department press release, firefighters arriving at the scene encountered a heavy smoke condition on the second floor. They quickly located the source of the fire and were able to extinguish it with minimal water damage. Firefighters remained on scene until about 5:30 p.m. completing extensive overhaul.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Mutual aid was provided at the scene by Wenham and Manchester-by-the-Sea, and Essex and Ipswich provided station coverage. Hamilton Police and Beauport Ambulance also assisted at the scene.
