Swimmers, Fishermen and Kayakers All Reported in Wenham Lake

A roundup of recent Wenham Police and Fire Department activity.

The following activity for the Wenham Police and Fire Department comes from the Essex County Regional Emergency Communication Center log for Wenham on Saturday, July 27 and Sunday, July 28.

Saturday, July 27

  • The alarm at Wenham Museum was activated at 12:23 a.m. Police found the building was secure and no alarm was sounding.
  • Hamilton police requested that the Wenham Fire Department respond to Pingree Park to assist with the landing of a MedFlight helicopter at 2:09 a.m. after a car crash in Hamilton. The response was cancelled after the MedFlight was diverted to Beverly Hospital.
  • A verbal warning for speeding was issued after a car stop on Topsfield Road at 8:50 a.m.
  • A 911 hang-up call came from a Larch Row home at 9:37 a.m. Police determined the call was made because the home was having trouble with its phone line.
  • A Grapevine Road resident reported at 9:58 a.m. that a ring was either lost or stolen.
  • A vehicle was towed after a car stop on Main Street at 3:44 p.m. The vehicle registration was revoked for insurance and the driver’s license was suspended.
  • A verbal warning for speeding was issued after a car stop at Larch Row and Walnut Road at 4:45 p.m.
A Cedar Street resident could see a person in a green kayak on Wenham Lake at 5:10 p.m.  Police said a few minutes later the kayaker was off the water but he was seen a few minutes earlier in the water near the Beverly line.
  • A verbal warning for speeding was issued after a car stop at Main and Perkins streets at 6:58 p.m.
  • A verbal warning was issued after a car stop on Maple Street at 8:48 p.m.

Sunday, July 28

  • A car stop was conducted at 12:02 a.m. at Main Street and Great Pond Road.
  • A verbal warning for defective equipment was issued after a car stop on Main Street at 1:08 a.m.
  • Three tickets – one for defective equipment, one for no front plate and one for no registration – were issued after a car stop at 2:12 a.m. at Topsfield Road and Cherry Street.
  • A car stop was made at Main and Perkins streets at 2:59 a.m. Police spoke with the registered owner of the vehicle who was delivering newspapers.
  • A passer-by reported to a police officer at 1:21 p.m. that about eight people were swimming and fishing in Wenham Lake on the Cedar Street side. The people were sent on their way.
  • Hamilton police requested assistance from Wenham police searching for a missing 10-year-old boy near the town line on Linden Street. The boy, who was wearing a blue T-shirt, dark basketball shorts and riding a bicycle, was later located.
  • A citizen was assisted at a Grapevine Road address at 4:13 p.m.
  • Suspicious activity was reported in the MBTA lot off Walnut Road at 4:25 p.m. The license plate on a vehicle associated with the activity was given to police. The vehicle left the area when police arrived.
  • A ticket for speeding was issued after a car stop on Grapevine Road at 8:22 p.m.
  • Hamilton police requested assistance from Wenham police to a Robson Circle address at 11:20 p.m. for the report of a person with a knife that has a history of making suicidal statements and suicide threats.
  • A Cherry Street resident reported that somebody he did not known was knocking at his door at 11:44 p.m. The resident spoke with the man who was knocking at the door, who he described as a big, black man. The man asked for “Where is Harold.” The resident then closed the door and locked it and the man left in a Subaru Forester headed away from Route 1A on Cherry Street. A vehicle that was possibly involved was stopped on Cherry Street and the resident was also spoken to separately.
