Hamilton Firefighters Offering Free Citizens' Academy

It starts in April.

The Hamilton Fire Department is pleased to announce the commencement of its Second Citizens’ Fire Academy. The Academy will run from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm for nine consecutive Wednesdays, beginning on April 2, 2014 and conclude on May 28, 2014.

The Citizens’ Fire Academy is designed to familiarize citizens with the operation and function of the Hamilton Fire Department. Classes will cover various topics such as a history and overview of the department, fire safety, protective clothing, portable fire extinguishers, fire apparatus and  equipment, auto extrication, special operations, and more.

There will also be a trip to the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy on a Saturday as well as a trip to Bradley Palmer State Park and one of the fire towers. Classes will be taught by members of the Hamilton Fire Department, Hamilton Police Officers, and Dispatch personnel.

There is no charge to attend, however, you must be 18 years or older.  The class is limited to 20 applicants. Applications may be picked up at the Hamilton Fire Department, 265 Bay Road. You may also request an application packet by contacting Fire Chief Philip Stevens at 978-468-5560. Applications can also be downloaded on the Hamilton Fire website, www.hamiltonma.gov. or you can also pick an application up at the Hamilton Town Clerk’s office.

The deadline for application submittal will be Monday, March 17, 2014. Preference will be given to Hamilton residents.
