Chief: Please Help by Shoveling Out Hydrants

Firefighters are asking for help in clearing out fire hydrants.

Chief Phil Stevens of the Hamilton Fire Department is urging local residents to "adopt a hydrant" after the snowstorm.

The nearly two feet of snow that fell has buried many hydrants, which are an important tool for firefighting. Stevens is asking residents to clear out fire hydrants near their home.

“In a fire seconds count,” Stevens said in an announcement on Friday, “so help your fire department protect you and your neighbors by removing snow from nearby fire hydrants.”

Stevens said he is asking anyone that is able to do so, to shovel snow away from fire hydrants in case access to them is needed quickly.
