Boy Struck While Crossing Asbury Street

An 11-year-old boy was struck by a car while crossing Asbury Street on his bicycle on Thursday afternoon.

A boy struck by a car while riding his bike on Thursday afternoon is expected to be OK.

Hamilton Police Officer Michael Wetson said it happened at 3:17 p.m. on Thursday at the crosswalk across Asbury Street, just off Bay Road (Route 1A) that connects Patton Park to the Community House of Hamilton-Wenham.

The crash remained under investigation on Friday afternoon, Wetson said, and he still planned to interview some witnesses but no charges had been filed.

The 11-year-old boy, who was riding a bicycle at the time of the crash, was taken to Beverly Hospital by Beauport ambulance to be checked out. Wetson said he suffered minor injuries.

One witness told Patch that they saw the boy sitting up and conscious after the crash as first responders put him in a neck brace.

The woman who was driving the Toyota Camry that struck the boy, Lois Faddis, 67, of Daleville, Va. was not injured and neither was her husband, who was her passenger.

Wetson said the vehicle was going about 5-10 miles per hour at the time of the crash.

It happened as Faddis was headed northbound on Bay Road, making a left turn on to Asbury Street. The boy was using the crosswalk on Asbury Street as an UPS truck was waiting to pull out of Asbury Street to make a left turn to head north on Bay Road. As Faddis turned left, the boy in the crosswalk came out from behind the UPS truck and the two collided.

“She more or less bumped the child, who fell to the ground,” Wetson said.
