Local Boys of Summer finish as Champions

The Hamilton-Wenham Generals Williamsport Little League team finished
its summer season this past weekend by capturing the Stan Brown
Championship title against a combined Danvers American and Danvers
National League Williamsport Team.

The Team's summer season started with the International Little League
Williamsport District 15 tourney. The locals slugged and pitched their
way through eight games in fourteen days to put themselves in the
championship title game for the first time since 2004.
In only the second time in nine games, the locals ended up on the wrong
side of the score. For this tournament the Generals finished with 7 wins
and 2 losses, outscored opponents 70 to 39 and blasted 15 homeruns.

Feeding off of that tough loss, the team regrouped and entered the Stan
Brown Tournament with one goal. After finishing the pool play section
with 2 wins and 1 loss the Generals went undefeated in the elimination
round by defeating Danvers National and also Gloucester, setting up the
championship game against the host town team Danvers.

Phillip Durgin pitched 5 complete innings allowing just one run and
recorded 13 strikeouts. Pierson Tocci got things going offensively with
a line drive home run in the third inning. His blast was followed in the
next inning by Will Jones who drove in a pair of runs with a single off
the fence. Later in the game Jones added to the team's home run tally
with a towering home run. Paul Horgan and Mark Roselli plated a few runs with their bats as well. Aidan Cann contributed to the long ball rally
by driving one over the center field fence. Timely hitting by Generals
Paul Horgan (two hits and 1 rbi), Mark Roselli (2 rbi), Aidan Heney,
Adam Parady, Jack Cronin, Nick Glovsky and Durgin kept the pressure on
Danvers for the entire game.

Behind Durgin's 13 strikeout performance the defense did its job by
playing solid the entire game, as only one opposing player advanced past
second base. Danvers single run came on a solo home run late in the
game.
As Durgin reached his maximum pitch count at the end of the fifth, Will
Jones came on to pitch in the sixth. After a line drive snare in the
infield to record the first out, Jones wasted little time in retiring
the final two batters, each on strikeouts.
Final score Generals 8 Danvers 1.

For the tournament the Generals belted 9 more homeruns and outscored the
opposing teams 36 to 9.
