Community Corner

Why the rush?

Having attended two Patton Park pool presentations and read about other presentations, I’ve seen the numbers never to be the same from presentation to presentation, and what might be done never to be the same.

The pool, as it now exists, is a joint venture of Hamilton and Wenham.

Hamilton will decide on the future of the pool at a November Special Town Meeting. However, Wenham has no plans for doing the same at its Special Town Meeting, also in November.
The Hamilton Community Preservation Committee has voted to present a proposal for funding the pool at the Special Town Meeting. However, the Wenham Community Preservation Committee does not plan to present a proposal for supporting the pool at Wenham’s Special Town Meeting.
At the pool presentations that I have attended, no information was provided on how much the new pool will annually cost to operate, no information about a traffic study, and no specific information about what'’s wrong with the existing pool.
The pool operation comes under the guidance of the joint Hamilton-Wenham Recreation Committee. If Wenham does not fund the new pool, does this end the joint Recreation Committee? Will Wenham families have to pay to use the pool?
There are many more questions that need to be answered.
Are we rushing to make a decision on the new pool? Are we fools rushing into a pool vote?
Should we hold off until the next Annual Town Meeting to take a vote on this issue? Can the existing pool be used for at least one more year?

We’ve removed the ability to reply as we work to make improvements. Learn more here
