A nonprofit group called “Tax Reform for Education” is planning to sue the state government, challenging its method of collecting taxes used to fund education.

The group is looking to collect $10,000 for 30 communities to launch the suit and received a commitment last Monday from the Hamilton Board of Selectmen.

Even though Hamilton and Wenham – combined – have three post office along a two mile stretch of Route 1A serving 12,000 people, all three post offices escaped the U.S. Postal Service’s post office closure list this week.

The low level of the Ipswich River has prompted outdoor watering ban to be implemented in both Hamilton and Wenham. Mechanical watering is banned around the clock and handheld watering is allowed from 5 p.m. to 9 a.m.

John Perkins, the executor of the estate that has donated a large portion of the money needed to build and maintain a war memorial in Wenham, says the money will go towards the design selected by the veterans. The design of the memorial has been under discussion for many months by several town committees.

Hamilton resident W. Kevin Fitzgerald, who owns Jacob Wirth restaurant in Boston and runs Fitz Inn parking lots, was seriously burned in a tanker truck crash on Route 1 in Saugus last Saturday.

Fitzgerald was driving north of Route 1 just after 2 a.m. when he became part of the fiery crash. The tanker truck driver was killed and Fitzgerald was the most seriously injured in the survivors.
