Horses, Hardcovers and More: Many Choices to Keep Busy Locally This Weekend

There's all sorts of things to do locally this weekend, ranging from the Boston Jumper at Myopia to an antique book sale at the library.

There's all sorts of action around both towns this weekend, headlined by the Myopia Horse Show and Boston Jumper Classic, which runs all day on Saturday and through mid-afternoon on Sunday.

The Jumper Classic returns to the Myopia Hunt Club in Hamilton after a three-year hiatus. General admission tickets are $10 and available at the gate.

For those who don't plan to attend, expect heavier traffic than usual along Route 1A in the area of the Schooling fields, Myopia Hunt Club and Patton Park. The downtown businesses are also expecting more visitors than usual with the jumpers and spectators in town.

On Saturday, Christ Church is being opened up for an architectural tour.

Hamilton-Wenham Patch had a preview article this week explaining what makes the church so unique and what tour members may see. The tour is free and begins at 2 p.m. at the church on Asbury Street.

It's the first weekend after Labor Day, which means fall in here. What better way to kick off the cool season than with a good book? There will be plenty of books to choose from at the Hamilton-Wenham public library's fall book sale on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. While the sale will continue all this week during the library's regular hours, it's no secret that the selection will be best in the first few hours.

While the book sale happens twice a year - every year - new this fall is the antique and collectible book sale on Saturday.  It will be on the second floor of the library from noon to 3 p.m. The proceeds from both sales benefit the Friends of the Hamilton-Wenham library.

A can't miss activity all fall will be the high school football games. The season kicks off on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. versus Newburyport.

The team will look to get off on the right foot after a disappointing 1-point loss on Thanksgiving Day last year to archrival Ipswich.

On Sunday, there's a delightful family-friendly event at the Wenham Museum called the Pears and Bears Fashion Show and Cupcake Tea Party.

Again, this is an event that was previewed earlier this week here on Hamilton-Wenham Patch. It begins at 2 p.m. on Sunday, which is also Grandparents Day and admission is $14 for children and $17 for adults with a $2 discount per person if you a museum member.
