Today is Monday, Jan. 16. Here are five things you need to know:

1. Cold: The cold snap continues on Monday. After a very cold start, temperatures should get to about freezing but wind chills – with gusts of 10-15 miles per hours – could make it feel closer to zero.

2. Martin Luther King Jr: Martin Luther King Jr. would be 83 years old today on what is a federal holiday that bears his name. That means locally schools and government offices and are all closed. There will be no mail delivery and trash collection will be delayed by a day.

3. IT: Alan Taupier of Marblehead has been hired as Director of Information Technology for the . Taupier fills the spot vacated by Jeffrey McCormack, who retired in December. Previously, Taupier was Information Technology Director for Minuteman Vocational School District in Lexington since 2006. He has a Bachelor’s of Science in Information Technology from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. His annual salary is $110,000.

4. PuppetPalooza: The wraps up today at . The museum is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
