An essential get-me-going daily morning column from Hamilton-Wenham Patch.

3: Matt Fox: You know him as the principal. But he’s also one of the newest Red Sox pitchers. Last fall, the Sox claimed Matt Fox off waivers from the Twins and he had a few major league appearances. When the season was over, he was designated for assignment. But on Wednesday the Sox again signed the right-hander to a minor league contract. A fun fact on a “snow day.”

4. Pets: If you’re out walking your dog in the street where salt has been put down, we remind you to try to keep them off the salt. And if they walk through salt, try to wipe off the paws when you get home.

5. MBTA: If you regularly take the commuter rail to Boston, we’re not telling you anything you didn’t know. But it has been a very, very tough week for the T’s commuter rail. In fact, a large majority of the trains headed in and out of the all week have been late. Some were just a few minutes late and some were more than an hour late. It’s not clear when things are going to improve, but for the casual train rider – for example if you are headed in to Friday night’s Celtics game - be forewarned.
