Come Play! Historic Wind Band Repertoire Reading Session

The Community Band – Wenham is holding a free open reading session of wind band repertoire and new music at Gordon College’s AJ Gordon Chapel on Saturday, April 26th from 7pm to 9pm. Also, we will be exploring the historic marches of the legendary local band masters and composers of Salem, Jean M. Missud and Patrick S. Gilmore, courtesy of a grant by the Peabody Essex Museum Philips Library. Some of this music was composed before the Civil War, and possibly has not been performed since!

Other works we will be reading…
Morton Gould’s American Salute
Gustav Holst’s First Suite in E flat
Mars from “The Planets” by Holst
Them Basses by G.H. Huffine
John Philip Sousa’s Ancient & Honorable Artillery Guard
Kenneth Alford’s(Frederick Ricketts’) Colonel Bogey March
The theme to the film “Patton” by Jerry Goldsmith
An arrangement of Star Trek Into Darkness
A brass band piece based on the theme to “JAG”
…and more!

We will be selecting works for the upcoming Community Band – Wenham Summer Concert at Patton Park on July 20th 5pm to 7pm. The Enon Brass and the local flute ensemble LOCA will be performing with us at the gazebo. The Wenham Memorial Day parade will be on Monday, May 26th at 1pm.
