Burning and Recycling are Two Options for Christmas Tree Disposal This Year

The two options to get rid of your Christmas tree in Hamilton and Wenham this year is to burn it or recycle it.

There’s two ways to get rid of your Christmas tree in Hamilton and Wenham this year.

One option is to recycle it and the other is to have it become part of the annual bonfire.

If you want it recycled, you can drop it off at Pingree Park in Wenham. The Hamilton Wenham Green Tree Recycling program is run by Dodge Tree Service and Brick Ends Farm. Dodge Tree will chip the trees and Brick Ends Farm will donate $1 per tree to Hamilton-Wenham Green.

Last year, 834 trees were recycled through the program, according to Alisa Greco of Hamilton-Wenham Green. The goal this year is to recycle 1,000 trees, she said.

The trees must be dropped off by Jan. 7 and all ornaments, plastic bags, decorations and lights must be removed. Also, wreaths are not accepted.

“Anything but naked trees makes it much harder to chip and could potentially damage the equipment,” Greco said.

The other option is to drop off your tree at Patton Park in Hamilton and have it part of the annual Christmas tree bonfire. The fire is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 5 at 6 p.m. at Patton Park, according to Hamilton Fire Chief Phil Stevens. There are already trees accumulating along the road at the back of Patton Park, according to Stevens.

There is no roadside pick of trees in either town.
