Playground Opening Featured in Web Video

An "absolutely unbelievable" Web video highlights the grand opening of the new playground at Patton Park.

The opening of a new playground at Patton Park in Hamilton has been featured in a new Web video by some local high school students.

The fast-paced video that runs less than two minutes has been posted to the video-sharing website Vimeo. It shares scenes from the grand opening celebration in late August.

It shows scenes from all across the playground, from the large play-structure built to resemble a pirate ship to the zip line  and is set to the song "You Always Make Me Smile" by Kyle Andrews.

The footage was shot by James Rennicks, Hayden Crocker and Zachary Grimshaw and edited by Grimshaw.

Included are "cameo" shots of state Rep. Brad Hill (R-Ipswich) and Jennifer Scuteri, a member of the Hamilton Board of Selectmen and former chairwoman.

Children in the video range in age from kids just learning to walk to middle school age students.

In a post to the Friends of Patton Park Facebook page, the page administrator said the video elicits "tears and chills" and is "absolutely unbelievable."

The playground, which cost $150,000, was paid largely by community donations through an effort by Friends of Patton Park. It was put together over the course of the past spring and summer. The new playground replaced some basic play structures that were in some cases rusty or missing bolts. That former equipment is planned to be rehabilitated and installed at the School Street playground.
