Sunday Afternoon Vespers Service
Come join us under the pines for afternoon worship. This week you can hear
The Rev. Alex Musoke, is known as the “Pencil Pastor” in his native Uganda. Every year for the past decade Musoke, a pastor for The United Methodist Church in Duxbury, visits his hometown of Buwaya, with as many as 3,000 pencils for delighted schoolchildren. The 61-year-old’s mantra is “Freedom and democracy start with the written word.” Musoke has personally made the deliveries since 2002 when he began the Give a Pencil Project (GAPP). Providing pencils for students who cannot afford them “can significantly change a child’s story,” said the Rev. Musoke, referring to the future opportunities an education represents.
