HW Rotary/MRMS Student of the Month

On February 14, 2014, the Hamilton-Wenham Rotary Club at its weekly Friday breakfast meeting awarded an Outstanding Accomplishment certificate to an 8th grade Miles River Middle School student. Olivia Brown received the award for Excellence in the Performing Arts.

Her teacher wrote: “I was absolutely blown away by Olivia’s performance as Glinda, the good witch, in the Wizard of Oz. The second I found out she was cast as Glinda, I thought it was perfect casting because Olivia is such a nice, good natured, soft spoken person.  I was amazed by her performance – from how she was able to emulate the way Glinda spoke to her breathtakingly beautiful voice! I can really see Olivia coming into her own in high school and becoming a star in the high school musicals!”

In addition to the certificates, a picture of  Olivia is going to be put up at the Miles River Middle School.  Rotary has also provided a wall plaque at the school on which her name will appear along with those of past and future winners.

Outstanding Accomplishment awards have been given for leadership, good citizenship, excellence in the performing arts or fine arts, extracurricular activity, sportsmanship, most improved academically, and academic excellence.

The Student of the Month program is a joint venture between the HW Rotary Club and the Miles River Middle School. Catherine Frost coordinates this program at the middle school and Tom Ackerman oversees it for Rotary.
