Five Things to Know on Oct. 10: Harvey Meets With Special Ed Group

An essential get-me-going daily morning column from Hamilton-Wenham Patch.

Today is Wednesday, Oct. 10. Here are five things you need to know in Hamilton and Wenham:

1. Dr. Harvey: Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District Superintendent Michael Harvey will be the featured guest when the Special Education Parent Advisory Council meets on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Miles River Middle School.

2. Congressional Debate: U.S. Rep. John Tierney (D-Salem) and Republican Congressional candidate Richard Tisei of Wakefield are both coming pretty close to the two towns on Wednesday night for a debate. Libertarian Daniel Fishman of Beverly will join them. The event, sponsored by the Salem News and Jewish Journal, starts at 7 p.m. at Danvers High School. The event is open to the public and will be seated on a first come, first served basis in the 600-seat auditorium.

3. Fire Department: The Wenham Fire Department open house, a tradition each fall during Fire Prevention Week, had originally been scheduled for Wednesday night but has been rescheduled because of the ban on organized outdoor activity. It has been rescheduled to Saturday, Oct. 20 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The event will still include station tours, fire safety tips plus free Papa Gino’s pizza and ice cream from Cherry Farm Creamery.

4. Kitchen: If you plan to attend this Saturday’s Heart of the Home Kitchen Tour, which features top kitchen across the North Shore and is sponsored by Wenham Museum, you can grab your tickets on Wednesday and save $5. The tour starts at 11 a.m. and includes tours of nine kitchens in Beverly Farms, Boxford, Hamilton, Wenham, Ipswich and Manchester By-the-Sea. Tickets will be $23 at the door but are $18 for the museum’s non-members through Wednesday.

5. Hamilton Council on Aging: The Hamilton Council of Aging hosts it annual open house at The Meetinghouse on Wednesday morning where a member of the School Committee will be there to talk about the warrant articles that will go before voters at upcoming fall Town Meetings in each town.
